Archibald Prize
A substantial part of Mathew Lynn's practice has been built around the Archibald Prize, Australia's most celebrated art prize, held annually at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. He has been a finalist eighteen times, and twice runner-up, with works recognised by the People's Choice Award and the Packing Room Prize. The Archibald entries trace a significant arc — from precise tonal portraiture to a deliberate reinvention as a broader contemporary figurative artist, with the Prize serving as both testing ground and public record of that evolution.
