Gundungurra Elders of the Blue Mountains
From around 2009, Mathew Lynn sought a deeper connection with his then home in Blackheath, in the upper Blue Mountains west of Sydney. He began building relationships with local Gundungurra and Darug families, resulting in a series of Conté portrait drawings on brown paper. He chose the trois crayons method — black, white and sanguine Conté on warm brown paper — for the immediacy and resonance it carries with the sandstone country of the region.
